Tinnitus - concept and causes | Revista Women's Health

Do you suddenly get up in the middle of the night hearing strange noises? Yes, definitely can be scary, especially when you can not find the source. Now consider for a moment that these sounds come from inside you.

Most people are surprised to learn that. Many of us do not even know that our internal organs can make sounds. We will try to see if they really hear these noises or not and if they did, where did they come from.

Now, first of all, let?s clarify this ? yes, really heard those noises. No, not the result of a creative mind to imagine things in the dream. That said, it is also true that there is indeed no source of the sounds he heard. So what is it? Confused? This is a classic case of tinnitus.

What is tinnitus?

What we saw last night (or did you just get out of bed and turn on the computer) is a classic case of tinnitus. This is a medical condition in which a person hears all kinds of strange clicking, buzzing, ringing, whistling or hissing in the ears.

What is worrisome situation for many people is that in reality there is no physical source of these sounds. What makes it worse is that nobody seems to listen. Frankly, these people are not really guilty. Naturally, if you can not see where the sound is coming from, and if you keep hearing this, you are bound to worry.

In tinnitus, the sounds a person hears are actually perceptions. Since there is no real source, which is often referred to as ?phantom noises.? Will it help if you knew that about 8% of all people in the U.S. They suffer from tinnitus? Maybe not, but at least now you know you?re not alone, I heard these strange noises.

What causes these noises?

Of course, you want to know why they are listening to these sounds. But even before you know it, you should know that tinnitus is not really a disease. It is actually a symptom of a problem that has its roots deep somewhere inside your body.

The problem could be as simple as an ear infection, or even simpler, like earwax. Just above the wax and the infection is treated, and noises that could disappear. Some people might even be the result of a side effect of a drug they took.

Or it could be more complicated. Some people have tinnitus because their cochlea is damaged. And in a few, which could be caused due to hearing loss. But of course, the most common cause of tinnitus is exposure to loud noises.

Noise can be a sudden explosion, or could be a constant din that hits the eardrum and travels inside. If you are abusing your ears making it a point to be close to a racket, you certainly have to pay a price.

What is the price ? which is the tinnitus. Of course, no buzzing noises are heard only at night. They can be heard during the day too. But surely seems to be worse at night. In some people, noises come and go as they please. And there are others who hear all the time.

The treatment of tinnitus

It is almost impossible to live with tinnitus, but it has to. If you are listening to the sounds, either permanently or intermittently, seek treatment immediately.

But unfortunately, conventional treatments only treat the symptoms of tinnitus and can provide temporary relief at best. Indeed, the sounds are coming back. The only way you could get rid of your tinnitus is for good, following the holistic approach to healing.

By using multidimensional treatment for tinnitus, we are addressing all causal factors tinnitus and removing these triggers from the root. This is the only path to permanent liberation from tinnitus. This article is based on the book, ?Tinnitus miracle? by Thomas Coleman.

Thomas is a consultant author, researcher, nutritionist and health who dedicated his life to creating the ultimate solution guaranteed to reverse tinnitus definitely the root of ringing in the ears and, of course, and dramatically improve the overall quality of your life without the use of prescription drugs and without any surgical procedures.

Energy Efficiency - Economics not 'range anxiety' deterring potential ...

Economics not ?range anxiety' deterring potential buyers of electric and rechargeable hybrid cars

Last month we reported?that, even with government subsidies on offer to purchasers of qualifying electric vehicles, that the economics of buying an electric versus a conventional fuel vehicle is far from clear for consumers.

An International Transport Forum policy Brief for June 2012 entitled ?Electric Cars: Ready for prime time?? reported that electric cars cost ?4k to ?5k more to their owners than an equivalent fossil fuel car over the vehicle?s lifetime, but, with electric cars much cheaper to run per mile, overall price differentials depends on travel distances over the lifetime of the vehicle.

The greater an electric car travels, the more attractively it compares to a similar fossil-fuelled model. Yet most electric cars are constrained by their travel range.

Consumers will also have varying attitudes towards such differed savings.

A report in this weekend?s Financial Times, as well as by JD Power/LMC Automotive, suggests the timing of the introduction first crop of electric and rechargeable hybrid cars has been unfortunate, adversely affected by current lowering oil prices and a depressed economy.

The FT article 'Electric cars struggle to build momentum' (registration required) found that manufacturers, including Audi, are scaling back plans for launch of electric vehicles due to poor market reaction to early movers such as Nissan, with its Leaf, and GM?s Chevrolet Volt. ??

Considerations such as charging infrastructure and ?range anxiety? were thought likely to be foremost for potential buyers but, according to the FT, ?carmakers say that most people buying or testing early electric cars have coped well with the need to plug in, as long as they could recharge at home or work. Instead, say industry analysts, consumers are rejecting plug-in cars because they find them too expensive for what they offer - even after subsidies like the ?5,000 grant available in the UK, or the $7,500 offered in the US.?

The FT report that ?In Britain, only about 800 consumers registered vehicles eligible for the plug-in car grant in the first half of this year.?

Quoting Lacey Plache, chief economist with Edmunds.com, the US car-buying website, ?The cost of a plug-in car is so much greater than a conventional car of the same size that people aren?t going to make up the cost differential during the period when they own the car ? and that?s even with government subsidies?.

The JD Power/LMC Auto report 'US Monthly Retail Sales ? June 2012' includes analysis of sales figures for electric vehicles in the US. According to John Humphrey, senior vice president of global automotive operations at JD Powerand Associates,??Gas prices in the United States have fallen steadily since April, which has changed demand for hybrid and electric vehicles. As gas prices increased from $3.33 per gallon in November 2011 to $3.84 per gallon in April 2012, the combined share of retail sales of hybrid and electric vehicle sales increased from 1.7% to 4.6% during the same period. However, as gas prices have dropped since April, so has the market share for hybrid and electric vehicles, which has been trending downward during the past two months and is now at 3.4%."

?The hybrid and electric vehicle market closely follows gas prices, which demonstrates that while there is consumer interest in hybrid and electric vehicles, demand is heavily influenced by the economic environment, rather than pure interest in the technology,? said John Humphrey. ?Until we see alternative powertrain growth without rising gas prices, we won?t see the market share growth that many automakers are hoping for.?

The JD Power/LMC Automotive report also predicts that hybrid and electric vehicle sales in the US will account for 3.2% of total light-vehicle in 2012.

3 Tactics to Improve Your Productivity for Business | Metal Stogo

Posted on 10. Jul, 2012 by iyem in business

Whether you?re an employee or a business owner, you are always looking for ways to increase your productivity. The output of two employees can vary, even if they work the exact same hours. This usually has to do with making valuable use of your time, just as much as it has to do with any inherent capabilities. There are some simple strategies that can help anyone become more productive, and we?ll be exploring some of them in this article.

Just in the last two decades, multitasking has taken on a completely new definition. Many people once thought that you are more productive if you could multitask more things. In fact, multitasking is the opposite ? people are actually less productive instead of more productive. Mistakes are definitely made, and we tend to get sloppy at what we do, when multitasking is occurring.

In our world, it is becoming harder to avoid multi-tasking in our daily lives. This is something that most people do anyway. But when it comes to the most important tasks you have to accomplish, it?s far better to focus completely on what you?re doing. So if you don?t focus on something completely, your productivity will definitely drop off.

Technology is certainly something that most businesses rely upon today. It is necessary, on a consistent basis, to assess the tools that you use for your business throughout the year. Ask yourself what a new computer, or new software program, actually help me be more productive?

Instead of buying every new thing under the sun, try to limit yourself to the new things you actually get. If you want to buy something new for your business, then you need to evaluate the overall cost, and make sure that it is a profitable decision. You need to think about the cost of the new technology that you want to purchase. You should also consider if it really will make you more productive. Basically, it comes down to understanding whether or not something and help you, or if it?s worth the expense.

Productivity is sometimes based upon how well you take care of yourself. Your business can flourish or suffer. A healthy balanced lifestyle is absolutely important. Even though you need to attend to your business, don?t forget friends and family. You need to take care of your body as well.

You need to eat healthy food, and sleep enough everyday. Despite the fact it is necessary, in order to keep you productive, it is something you may not notice until much later. People that are healthy, and happy, have a clear mind. Not only will you longer, but you will enjoy your profits much more greatly.

Productivity is a topic that can be approached in many ways. Being productive is a combination of producing quality work, and a lot of it. If we want to be productive, we must improve our mind and body. That?s how it works! Just as it is important to do hard work, you need to rest enough and take regular breaks too. Hopefully you will reach your business goals, using these strategies, without burning out along the way.

Episcopal bishops OK trial gay blessing prayer; full church affirms transgender ordination

Episcopal bishops approved an official prayer service for blessing same-sex couples Monday at a national convention that also cleared the way for transgender ordination.

At the Episcopal General Convention in Indianapolis, the House of Bishops voted 111-41, with three abstentions, to authorize a provisional rite for same-sex unions for the next three years. The liturgy next goes to convention's deputies for their authorization.

In a separate vote Monday, the full convention approved new anti-discrimination language for transgendered clergy candidates and church members. Some dioceses already ordain transgendered people or elect them to positions of parish leadership. However, advocates for the amendment argued they needed an explicit statement of acceptance as the churchwide policy.

The Rev. Carla Robinson, who is transgendered and a vicar of All Saints Church in Seattle, said she was lucky to have the backing of parishes and bishops when she was considering ordination, but she said others haven't had the same support.

"I stand here as a priest today because my diocese specifically said that my gender identity and expression didn't disqualify me from the discernment process," Robinson said from the floor of the convention. "I ask that as a church we do the same for my trans sisters and brothers."

While critics of the different measures registered their opposition during the convention debate, many conceded ahead of the vote that they were in the minority.

Episcopalians blazed a trail ? and caused an uproar ? in 2003 by consecrating New Hampshire Bishop Gene Robinson, the first openly gay bishop in the Anglican world. The Episcopal Church is the U.S. body of the Anglican Communion. Episcopal conservatives responded by creating a rival denomination under the guidance of like-minded Anglican leaders overseas.

Worldwide, the 77 million-member Anglican Communion, which has its roots in the Church of England, has been splintering ever since. Anglican leaders had asked Episcopalians for a moratorium on electing gay or lesbian bishops as the communion struggled to stay together. However, after a few years, Episcopalians voted to lift the temporary ban.

On Monday, several Episcopal bishops who spoke against the same-sex unions trial liturgy warned about the repercussions overseas.

"I believe it will put us, put the Episcopal Church, out of the Christian mainstream," said Bishop Edward Little of the Diocese of Northern Indiana. "They will interpret that the Episcopal Church has endorsed same-sex marriage."

However, Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde argued that an official service was needed to honor and bless the "lifelong same-sex couples" who she said "have served Christ and Christ's mission in ways incalculable to measure."

The official liturgy for same-sex blessings has been in development since 2009, when it was authorized by the last General Convention. Some bishops had already developed rites for the ceremonies for use in their own dioceses. If the deputies approve the proposal before them in Indianapolis, it will be the first such official prayer for use by the entire church.

The rite is called "The Witnessing and Blessing of a Lifelong Covenant." It includes what one bishop described as a conscience clause, explicitly stating that no one in the church would be forced to perform the ceremony or punished in any way for barring its use.

Like other mainline Protestant groups, Episcopalians have been debating the Bible and homosexuality for decades. The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), have in recent years struck down barriers for clergy living with same-sex partners, while the United Methodist Church has maintained its ban on ordination for openly gay and lesbian candidates.

The New York-based Episcopal Church has 1.96 million members. The convention in Indianapolis runs through Thursday.

Not For Sale South Africa and the 2012 Trafficking in Persons Report

Recently, the 2012 Trafficking In Persons Report was published by the US State Department. South Africa, a country where Not For Sale actively works to assist victims of human trafficking and provide them with opportunities to create new futures, was rated as a ?Tier 2? country; a country whose government does not fully comply with the standards of the Trafficking Victims Protection Act (TVPA) but is making significant efforts to bring themselves into compliance with those standards.?In recent years, South Africa has moved up from the ?Tier 2 Watch List?; meaning that the country?s efforts to address human trafficking have started to receive positive feedback.

The work of Not For Sale in South Africa was indirectly referenced in the 2012 report with regards to the establishment of a short-term Victim Assistance Center to provide victims of trafficking with placement, and the development of a rapid response team in the Western Cape, a process in which NFS played a significant role.?

According to the report: ?In 2011, the Western Cape task team established a rapid response team comprised of government agencies and NGO?s to quickly coordinate protective services, including shelter, for victims? provincial task teams and rapid response teams ? including representatives from law enforcement, DSD, and NGOs ? enabled quick access to care in some provinces?

Not For Sale?s ongoing partnership with law enforcement in the Western Cape of South Africa has led to assistance of over 70 individuals identified as trafficking victims since 2010. 60% of survivors assisted by NFS in South Africa are foreigners, and 20% of the victims have been minors.?

With all the long hours and hard work that the NFS South Africa team has spent bringing about change within local and provincial government, it is good to see their efforts recognized in this year?s TIP Report.

Not For Sale around the world acknowledges that there is still much work to be done in creating new futures for survivors, but celebrates each country that progresses in the direction of freedom!

WASHINGTON (AP) ? If you're reading this online, you're fine. The day that was supposed to see thousands of people knocked off the Internet has arrived, but only a few people were affected.

Thousands of Internet users across the U.S. and beyond waited too long or simply didn't believe warnings that they would lose access to the Internet just after midnight because of malware that took over computers around the world more than a year ago.

At 12:01 a.m. on Monday, the FBI turned off Internet servers that were functioning as a temporary safety net to keep infected computers online for the past eight months. A court order the agency had gotten to keep the servers running expired, and was not renewed.

FBI officials have been tracking the number of computers they believe still may be infected by the malware. As of Sunday night, there were about 41,800 in the U.S., down from 45,600 on July 4. Worldwide, the total is roughly 211,000 infected. An estimated 2.3 billion people around the world use the Internet, according to Internet World Stats.

Considering that there are millions of Internet users across the country, several thousand losing access isn't a big deal ? unless you are one of them.

As the deadline approached, Internet service providers such as AT&T Inc. and Time Warner Cable Inc. set up their own safety nets to allow the affected computers to continue to access the Internet.

AT&T said only a "small percentage" of its customers were affected by the virus. To make sure they can continue to access the Internet, the company will maintain legitimate Internet servers for them through the end of the year.

This, said spokesman Mark Siegel, gives people "adequate time" to remove the virus from their computers and avoid service interruption.

Time Warner Cable would not say how many of its customers were affected by the virus, but spokesman Justin Venech said the company also set up its own servers to ensure they can get online. Time Warner has no specific deadline, but the company will notify people who are affected so they can fix their computers.

Verizon Communications Inc. said it will "continue to provide extended support to our customers during the month of July - while continuing to instruct them on the necessary actions they must take to resolve the issue on their computers."

The company added that it has notified affected customers "using a variety of methods, including email, phone calls, and postal mail correspondence."

In South Korea, there were no reports from affected computers Monday. As many as 80 computers there are believed to be infected with the malware that may cause problems in Web surfing, down from 1,798 computers in February, according to the government.

"The impact will be limited," said Lee Sang-hun, head of network security at the Korea Communications Commission, a government body. The government and private broadband providers opened helplines and issued warnings. They also asked users to check if their computers were infected and to download antivirus software. South Korea is one of the most wired countries in the world, with more than 90 percent of households connected to broadband Internet.

The problem began when international hackers ran an online advertising scam to take control of more than 570,000 infected computers around the world. When the FBI went in to take down the hackers late last year, agents realized that if they turned off the malicious servers being used to control the computers, all the victims would lose their Internet service.

In a highly unusual move, the FBI set up the safety net. They brought in a private company to install two clean Internet servers to take over for the malicious servers so that people would not suddenly lose their Internet.

And they arranged for a private company to run a website, http://www.dcwg.org, to help computer users determine whether their computer was infected and find links to other computer security business sites where they could find fixes for the problem.

From the onset, most victims didn't even know their computers had been infected, although the malicious software probably slowed their web surfing and disabled their antivirus software, making their machines more vulnerable to other problems.

Efforts to solve the issue have been hindered a bit by a few factors: Many computer users don't fully understand how their computers work. The cyber world of viruses, malware, bank fraud and Internet scams is often distant and confusing, and warning messages may go unseen or unheeded.

And other people simply don't trust the government, and believe that federal authorities are only trying to spy on them, or take over the Internet, by pushing solutions to the infection. Blogs and other Internet forums are riddled with postings warning of the government using the malware as a ploy to breach American citizens' computers ? a charge the FBI and other security experts familiar with the malware quickly denounced as ridiculous.

There is an underlying sense that this has been much ado about nothing ? like the hoopla over Y2K, when the transition to the year 2000 presented technical problems and fears that some computers would stop working because they were not set up for the date change. In the end, as in this case, there were very few problems.

Rep. Jim Langevin, D-R.I., who co-founded the cybersecurity caucus in Congress, said computer users have a responsibility to practice good hygiene and make sure their computers have not been infected or hijacked by criminals.

"These types of issues are only going to increase as our society relies more and more on the Internet, so it is a reminder that everyone can do their part," he said.

Chester Wisniewski, senior security adviser at computer security firm Sophos, said it would have been better to turn off the safety net earlier, so that people can clean up their computers.

"There is only so much responsibility the American government has to continue to run this stuff," he said. "If you still have this virus it's likely that you have others."

(AP) ? Marathon swimmer Penny Palfrey stroked across the Straits of Florida early Saturday as she attempted a record 103-mile (166-kilometer) unassisted swim from Cuba to Florida that tests the limits of human endurance.

If the 49-year-old mother and grandmother is successful, she'll go in the record books as the first woman to swim the Straits without the aid of a shark cage. Instead she's relying on equipment that surrounds her with an electrical field to deter the predators in the infested waters.

Early Friday, the British-born Australian bade farewell to onlookers, dove headfirst into the calm, bathwater-warm seas off Havana and began stroking slowly northward with a kayaker as escort.

"There's a lot of work that's gone into this over the past year," Palfrey said, thanking her husband, her team and Cuban officials who helped facilitate the trip. "It's all coming together, and so exciting to finally get to this point where we can get started."

A member of Palfrey's crew was tweeting to fans, while a webpage updated her location every 10 minutes or so based on data from a GPS device worn by the swimmer. The site showed her making steady northward progress through the Straits of Florida, where the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean meet.

"Swimming strong. Great conditions. Some jellies, but not bad," read one tweet.

Late Friday, Palfrey was about 30 miles into the journey. "She is swimming strong and all is going well. Next update in the morning," said Andrea Woodburn, who was managing Palfrey's Twitter and Facebook accounts.

Palfrey will have to fight through physical and mental fatigue while fending off dehydration, hypothermia and dangerous marine life. She estimates that it will take 40 to 50 hours to make the crossing, and the currents will determine where in Florida she comes onshore.

Australian Susie Maroney made the crossing in 1997 at age 22, but with a shark cage. American Diana Nyad made two unsuccessful cageless attempts last year on either side of her 62nd birthday, but had to call them off due to a debilitating asthma attack and painful Portuguese man o' war stings. She plans to try again this summer.

Palfrey is more than a decade younger than Nyad.

She was wearing a regular sporting swimsuit instead of a wetsuit, and planned to put on a porous, non-buoyant Lycra bodysuit that provides cover down to the wrists and ankles whenever jellyfish may be a threat.

That's particularly the case at night, according to her support team of more than a dozen navigators, handlers and medical personnel who were escorting her on the 44-foot (13-meter) catamaran Sealuver.

Palfrey is no stranger to jellyfish stings, which forced her to abort two past swims in Hawaii.

A 20-year veteran of distance swimming, her personal best came last year when she completed 67 miles (108 kilometers) between Little Cayman and Grand Cayman islands.

At a news conference Thursday, Palfrey said she swam competitively in her youth but only discovered ultra-long-distance swimming later in life.

"I spent my teenage years swimming and studying, and then I've spent a lot of time raising my family and supporting my husband's business," she said. "And now I feel that it's my window in life to do something that I love to do. I don't believe that I can do it much later in life so this is my opportunity now. "

Friday morning she was upbeat and focused on the task at hand as she prepared to set off from the Hemingway Marina in western Havana.

Asked about the first thing she planned to do on arrival in Florida, she laughed and said, "get out of the water."

"Beautiful sea, beautiful sunrise. It's a lovely morning in Cuba," Palfrey said. "Thanks. I'm gonna get started."

Curvy mountain belts

ScienceDaily (June 29, 2012) ? Mountain belts on Earth are most commonly formed by collision of one or more tectonic plates. The process of collision, uplift, and subsequent erosion of long mountain belts often produces profound global effects, including changes in regional and global climates, as well as the formation of important economic resources, including oil and gas reservoirs and ore deposits. Understanding the formation of mountain belts is thus a very important element of earth science research.

One common but poorly understood aspect of mountain belts are the many examples of curved (arcuate) mountain ranges. The Appalachian range in Pennsylvania, the Rocky Mountains in central Montana, the Blue Mountains in Oregon, the Bolivian Andes of South America, and the Cantabrian Arc in Spain and northern Africa are among many examples of noticeably curved mountain belts.

The cause of these curvy mountains is among the oldest topics of research in geology, and there is still extensive debate on what mechanisms are most important for making a curvy mountain range.

A common question is whether these presently curvy mountain ranges were originally straight and then later bent or whether they were uplifted in more or less their present shape.

Another important aspect of the origin of these curved mountain ranges is the thickness of the rock units involved in their formation. Some workers have proposed that these ranges are composed of relatively thin slices of crustal rocks (limited to several kilometers in thickness), while others have argued that at least some of these curvy ranges involve the entire thickness of the lithospheric plates (30 to 100 km thick). One of the most promising ways to answer these questions utilizes comparisons of the orientation of structural features in rocks (fault planes and joints), records of the ancient magnetic field directions found in rocks, and the timing of deformation and uplift of the mountain belts.

An international group of researchers from Spain, Canada, and the United States, led by Dr. Gabriel Guti?rrez-Alonso, have presented a compelling study of one of the best examples of curved mountain ranges: the Cantabrian Arc in Spain and northern Africa. They have compiled an extensive collection of fault and joint orientation data and directions of the ancient geomagnetic field recorded by Paleozoic rocks collected in Spain.

The Cantabrian Arc was formed during the collision of a southern set of continents (Gondwanaland [present day Africa-South America-Australia-India-Antarctica]) with a northern set of continents (Laurentia [present day North America and Eurasia]) to produce the supercontinent Pangea. In a nutshell, their combined study has found that the curved pattern of the Cantabrian Arc was produced by the bending of an originally straight mountain range.

The main line of evidence supporting this view is the patterns of rotation that are obtained from the directions of the ancient geomagnetic field recorded by the rocks of these mountain ranges. Combined with an analysis of the faults and joints in the rocks, and the ages of rocks that have variations in the amount of rotation indicated by the magnetic directions, the age of the bending of the Cantabrian Arc is confined to a relatively narrow window of geological time between 315 and 300 million years ago.

Guti?rrez-Alonso and colleagues compare the age range of this mountain bending event to the ages of igneous activity and uplift of the region and propose that widespread changes in the deeper (mantle) portion of the lithospheric plate in the area are coeval, and likely linked to, the rotation of the Cantabrian Arc to produce its characteristic sharp curviness. Based on this linkage, they propose that this, and perhaps many other, curvy mountain ranges are produced by rotation of entire portions of the lithosphere of tectonic plates, rather than just thin slices of crustal rocks.

Aerosmith @ the Times Union Center, 6/29/12

By GREG HAYMES

ALBANY ? It?s possible that Steven Tyler is better known these days for his television gigs on ?American Idol? and Burger King commercials than he is as?the bandleader of Boston?s bad boys of rock. But there he was, back in the saddle again at the Times Union Center on Friday night leading the charge as?Aerosmith rumbled through nearly two hours of vintage rock anthems and bawdy blues-rockers ? as well as the big power ballads ? that have been the band?s?stock in trade for more than 40 years now.

More than ever, however, Friday night?s Aerosmith concert seemed like a Steven Tyler show. The charismatic frontman has always been the band?s visual?focal point in concert, but for more than half of the performance, black-clad guitarist Brad Whitford, white-clad bassist Tom Hamilton and drummer Joey Kramer?seemed all but invisible on stage. And the trio of supporting vocalists ? who also contributed on keyboards, sax and percussion ? were tucked away behind the?stack on amplifiers, almost out of sight.

Guitarist Joe Perry did manage to frequently elbow his way into the spotlight, but it took considerable effort on his part. The manic antics of Tyler?simply soaked up the audience?s gaze like a sponge.

A runway extending out into the audience from the stage is something of an arena-rock staple these days, a staging device usually utilized somewhere near?the mid-set point for rock stars to leave the stage and get closer to the audience in an effort to conjure a forced sense of intimacy. Not Aerosmith. They?actually started off the evening with Tyler and Perry shoulder-to-shoulder at the far end of the runway ? midway out into the arena ? launching into a slash ?n? burn rendition of??Draw the Line? that was laced with Perry?s scorching slide guitar work.

Throughout the night, Tyler actually spent much more time on the runway than he did on the stage. And perhaps he?s learned more about the power of a?well aimed camera from his television work, since he also seemed to spend quite a bit of time mugging for the cameras that provided the live feed to the?video projection backdrop.

But the truth of the matter is that Tyler?s hellacious howl is as strong as ever, and he remains a magnetic presence on stage, and whether it was classics?like ?Sweet Emotion? and ?Dream On,? the amped-up boogie woogie of ?No More, No More,? the swinging funk of ?Last Child,? the sneak previews of their?upcoming album (the gritty blues-based ?Oh Yeah? and the decidedly ?Walk This Way?-ish ?Legenadry Child?) or the cheeseball ballad ?I Don?t Want to Miss a?Thing,? he invested himself in them completely and convincingly.

Cheap Trick?s hour-long opening set was sabotaged by a relentlessly murky sound mix and a less than stellar song selection, as the band back-loaded their?set with the hits ? ?Surrender,? ?The Flame,? ?I Want You to Want Me? and ?Dream Police? ? before wrapping up with ?Good Night? and the requisite appearance?of Rick Neilsen?s five-neck guitar monstrosity.
