AUGUSTA, Maine ? Maine's Democratic Party leader is chiding Republican Gov. Paul LePage for using a barnyard epithet to describe a meeting with three unemployed workers.
The criticism was triggered by a comment LePage made to a Capitol News Service reporter who asked him for his thoughts about the Saturday meeting. LePage used an expletive, then repeated it slowly.
Democratic Chairman Ben Grant says the comment shows LePage is a "bully" and that he's ignoring Maine's 50,000 unemployed workers.
Democratic State Rep. Andy O'Brien requested the meeting after LePage suggested about a month ago that some people don't work because they can make more money on unemployment.
LePage has become known for his bluntness. While on the campaign trail last fall, he said he'd tell President Barack Obama to "go to hell."
