Is Your Online Business Ready for the Holidays? | Bay Area SEO ...

Is Your Online Business Ready for the Holidays?IBM Geometrics has taken a gander into their crystal ball and released their yearly ?4th Annual Online Retail Holiday Readiness Report.? The major points of this year?s report seem to show that people are spending a lot more time online. Not only that, but they are spending more per order than in years past. An average of 10% more during the checkpoints of last year?s holiday season!

?Trust

It seems that consumers are finally beginning to trust online retailers, no longer letting the idiocy of a few crooks mar the reputations of an entire group of honest businesses. So with trust increasing and free time decreasing, there lies the perfect storm for online retailers to really rake it in.

?Social Conversion

The report shows that businesses using social media to draw consumers to their sites are seeing an increase in traffic. More than ever it?s important for businesses to realize the power of social media and the importance of making sure their message reaches the eyes of their target consumers.

Attention Span

While all in all this seems like good news, it does have a few black marks. Online spending is up, but the average consumer seems to have the attention span of a 3-year-old child. Today?s consumers are more likely to ?bounce? from your site after viewing one page instead of sticking around to ?browse.?

Today?s consumers don?t want to waste time. They?ve done the research, they know what they want and they zero in on it and go. If they don?t find what they?re looking for right away from one site, they aren?t going to click around a site to find it. They?ll bounce to the next retailer. With this knowledge, it?s important that a site draws the consumer directly to the page that fulfills their need, or risk loosing the sale.

How Can Online Businesses Prepare

This late in the game it?s best for online businesses to focus on your paid search options and getting out there and spreading the message via social media. It?s too little too late for simply ramping up the SEO, you probably won?t see the results before the holiday shopping chaos begins, but it can?t hurt you in the long run.
