Earlier this week, Rory McIlroy said at his blog that he had not been experiencing pain with the strained right wrist and forearm that developed as a result of his risky root shot at the PGA Championship. He did mention some pain in his elbow, though, which came about as overcompensating for the risky escape attempt.
Whatever lingering pain there is from three weeks ago, McIlroy showed no signs of trouble in taking a share of the first round lead at the Omega European Masters on Thursday. He shot 6-under 65 to end level with Martin Kaymer at Crans-sur-Sierre in Switzerland.
?I?m able to hit all of the shots I want to and I?m hitting it really good. I?ve not lost any distance so it?s all good,? McIlroy said.
The U.S. Open champion said he had work done on it again on Wednesday ? a familiar site for McIlroy, who had been spending time with girlfriend and No. 1 tennis player Caroline Wozniacki.
Again on tour for the back stretch of the European Tour season, as well as the start of earning Ryder Cup points for 2012, McIlroy has clear goals leading into the Race to Dubai finale at the Dubai World Championship.
?I want to try to improve my world ranking. I?m sixth at the minute and I want to get higher,? McIlroy said. ?To have the second ranked player [Lee Westwood] and the fifth [ranked player in the field this week, Martin Kaymer], I want to try and beat them and get up that ladder as much as I can and get a little closer to Luke [Donald] in the Race to Dubai, too.?
