Flood Insurance Overcharge (updated)? | Your Answers!

If this answers your question, please click the Google +1 Facebook or Tweet buttons to share. thank you!

I just found out that I have been overcharged for flood insurance for the past 10 years. The original agent evidently made the error and I assumed that it was right. I transferred the insurance to a new company and they said the price was $ 225 per year. I had been paying $ 750 per year. The company refuses to refund me the overcharges. Should I go to the government to complain or am I out of luck?
Thanks

Additional Details
There has been no change in the map. They are still using a map from 1983?it has not been updated.
It is my understanding that the Feds establish the rates on flood insurance so they should be the same for all in that particular area.
The insurance agent admitted that there had been a mistake when the policy was established and no one validated the accuracy of the rates over the years. This was an administrative error made by the agent who wrote the original policy.
Still no recourse?
More details: The agent told me that our property should have been rated ?preferred? but was not. The property is in Bradenton, Florida. Not sure that elevation is an issue as Florida is pretty flat.
The amount of insurance was not changed.

I presume that the agent has some responsibility in determining the rating based on the flood plain map. The customer has no knowledge of these things so is really dependent on the knowledge of the agent (or the Fed). To imply that the customer must know these things and be responsible for making sure the right determination seems a bit overstated.

I do appreciate your input and opinions.
Thanks
