Ever since its first steps into the sporting scene in the 1900?s, motocross has turned into a highly regarded sport all around the globe. It has also spawned many off shoot varition sports, some of which are talked about below. As well as this, new advances in bike technology and new types of motocross clothing and gear have come onto the market.
Freestyle
The most well liked on the motocross racing scene is the Freestyle Motocross (FMX). The key objective of this sport is to perform tricks and moves rather than racing. Riders try and get the most points from the judges by performing tricks known as backflips, sidewinder, tsunami and the 360 to name but a few.
Supermoto
The Supermoto started in the late part of the 1970s as a side project for motocross racers that contained off road and dirt track racing. Some events also added metal ramps to further enhance the size of the tricks including jumps, whoops and berms.
Supercross
This kind of motocross is held in a stadium with temporary installed artificial race tracks. These dirt tracks also are composed of hurdles. Specifically altered bikes and motocross clothing are often used to deliver superb performance on such tracks.
ATV Motocross
All-terrain vehicles are employed in this version of motocross that includes dirt roads, log crossings, wooded trails and hill climbing. The Grand National Cross Country began in the USA in 1980 and all events are typically held in the eastern parts. In 1985, ATV National Motocross Championship was formed and the events are hosted throughout the US in 2 major groups; the Pro and Beginner series.
Mini Motocross
Pit bikes or mini motocross is a fairly new sport consisting or small versions of motorbikes. Before the mass manufacture of pit bikes in 2004, riders usually changed a mini bike made for kids. Specially designed pit bikes are being released that are not only cheap but also extremely powerful. Pit bikes are sometimes heavily customized to fit the race?s wishes and the rider?s taste.
Sidecar
Sidecar racing, aka Sidecarcross, began in the 1950s but lost its recognition by the 1980s. The Sidecarcross World Championship is generally held in Europe. Although it is held on standard race tracks, Sidecar racing is physically taxing particularly for the passenger as he will be responsible for maintaining the balance of the whole bike while being restricted thanks to the heavily protecting motocross clothing.
Enduro
Enduro is a form of Motocross that includes off-road racing that is against the clock. The World Enduro Championship is generally held in Europe, Canada and the US. It was first founded in 1990 and currently is composed of 16 races over 8 two day events.
Motocross has not only gained a large amount of acclaim over the years but also supported many industries that help make this sport exciting and safe. Technological advancements, motocross clothing and safety gear have brought in the desperately required safety to enhance rider skill and add to the delightful entertainment.
